I just can’t believe how obnoxious they are! I live in an apt on the famous Sheikh Zayed Road and on Saturday upon returning home, I met with this little boy aged 6 att he lift. I smile at him and said good morning. Normal kids would say good morning back. But not him, he looked at me acting all superior. I ignored him then as drama and me are just not friends. We get in the lift and he got off on the 3rd floor and there was his maid waiting for him. Imagine my surprise when he started scolding her! I was flabbergasted! I could not believe my ears. I guess he must take after his parents. I must say that I pitied the maid. I have seen her around in the supermarket downstairs and she never smiles and looks extremely unhappy. As for that kid and his parents they deserve to go to a bootcamp for bad manners and offensive behavior. Just saying.

Get this. Tonight went to the Grand Cinemas in behind Wafi Mall in Dubai with DH and found that we only had one payment option: hard cold cash! Needless to say that I found this to be utter nonsense as it anti-business. You need to offer clients various payment options otherwise they go elsewhere. But then again we are in Dubai city of paradox. So this foolishness can only happen here. Talk about third world mentality! Just thought I’d vent.

I read this interesting snippet about this shady British Company director who had managed to scam a group of UK investors and is now planning on doing the same thing over in Dubai.

I must say that I’m not really surprised that this is happening given the supposed regulatory system in place is not being enforced at all. This leaves the way for dirty money to continue its flow unabated and for crooks and all to keep on expanding their shady deals. As for the honest investors out there, I have one advice, keep your money close to your heart and place it elsewhere until the regulatory systems around here can protect your assets.

I was heading to work this morning and I spotted this guy with a seven inch beard! I was like wow!wow! It really made an impression on me. It got me thinking as to how weird and twisted the world is. Over here this guy walks free without being harassed by law and order officials. In Europe he would not be so free. People would steer clear of his way changing sidewalks and the poor guy would be stopped by a cop and he would be questioned, humiliated and traumatized beyond belief. Make no mistake here. I am not taking their side nor anyone’s for that matter. I am of the opinion that when in Rome, do like the Romans and you will get along fine with everybody else which means that they should do away with their beards in the West and that we in turn when we are their countries, should dress with respect. I’m just saying.

There has been recent posts on the web of a certain ex-baywacth watch star selling her name for a high profit to an up and coming gulf emirate’s future eco friendly hotel. Now I have nothing against the green hotel project which is fab by the way. My beef lies with the fact that they choose a has been like her to promote this project. Why for *&%#& sake! Why this obsession with has beens?! Could not choose another high profile environmentalist like Leonardo Di Caprio for instance? He would have been a much better choice in my humble opinion.

I am presently claiming residence in Dubai. Funny how before I came over, i would believe the media hype and the glossy exterior presented to us of this city from the outside. Once you’re here that’s a different st ory. You realsie that this city has no soul at all. That money has corrupted it’s very core.

It’s a city under eternal construction which can get pretty annoying at times. But if you’re up for adventure and bent on making it rich in let’s say 14 months, then this is the place for you. However, whilst you are here, please refrain from drinking and driving or oggling at women at both activities will land you in jail with deportation after the end of your sentence. If you’re from the Phillipines, Indian, pakistan or any other poor country, please refrain from coming over as you will be exploited and paid peanuts and suffer much aggravation at the hand of your employer. A favorite pass time of employers over here is

1. Withold your passport

2. threaten you with a lifetime bann

Result? No one dares to complain if they are mistreated. However, you hail from USA, Enlgand, France etc, you will be treated like a king until your behavior causes grave embarrassment to the authorities. then your fate will be similar to those of the lesser mortals in the “city of lost souls”.

According to the online newspaper based in Dubai, Five star hotels like the Shangri La hotel and resorts have started implementing this ridiculous rule whenever a client orders their steak rare or medium rare. Apparantly the hotel “was using the legal document to discourage customers from ordering rare or partially rare hamburgers and to protect the hotel from any consequences that may result due to the consumption of such meat”.

Now given the recent E.coli scares in the states, I totally understand the hotel’s view point as such a move wil protect their behinds from being sued by a customer taken ill at one of their restaurants. However, as a consumer and a regular restaurant goer myself, I’m afraid that the message that comes accross from this rule is:

1. The quality and origin of the meat is to be questioned
2. Hygiene standards at the restaurant are doubtful

Now if the meat’s freshness and the hygiene of the restaurants operated by this hotel chain, which mind you is very famous in throughout the Middle East, then if you value your health, I would suggest you go spend your hard earned moolah (cash) elsewhere.

I just read the newspaper this morning and saw that Emirates Airlines got its first orders of the A380 today. I say what a fab accomplishment. Kudos for them. How far they have come. Mumtaz ie. Excellent in arabic.

The plane pictured below has the capacity to seat 525 pax.

The plane’s first destination will be JFK, NY on August 1st 2008. For the few who will be lucky enough to fly first class, there will be shower and massage facilities.

Note this as well. Each business class guest will also have their own mini bar. and a major entertainment system.

The business class will have a bar for their own use pictured below.

However, what i can’t understand is why remove the footrests from economy? Are low paying pax so unimportant to the airline? More importantly how would they cut down on the airlines carbon footprint when they are planning to carry on board 500 kg of water?

Just imagine how heavy the plane is going to b at takeoff. Could this be the reason why they removed the footrests from economy?

This will hardly solve the issue though.
